SOUTHEAST EUROPE CONNECTIVITY FORUM THESSALONIKI 2024
During the Southeast Europe Connectivity Forum II, held on October 22-23 at the Makedonia Palace Hotel, Mr. Ioannis Manolas, Managing Director of IBLS, highlighted the strategic importance of logistics development for Greece.
He emphasized that Thessaloniki’s geographic advantage positions it as a key logistics hub, connecting Northern Greece with neighboring countries.
Mr. Manolas noted that investments in infrastructure, including the expansion of Thessaloniki’s port and the completion of rail projects, are critical to realizing this potential. He also stressed the significance of the state’s decision to establish a logistics hub at the former Gonou military camp, which could transform the region’s trade prospects.
However, he pointed out the lack of available spaces in Sindos and Kalochori that meet modern logistics standards, requiring large areas of 20,000 square meters and 14-meter heights. Strengthening the port’s connection with railways and major highways is essential for maximizing the city’s role in regional trade.
